Ballet Class Descriptions

Primary Division

The Primary Division for 4-7 year olds will introduce your child to ballet through movement, music, and storytelling. Your child’s natural love of dancing will be enhanced through body awareness, listening skills, and rhythm in a structured and imaginative environment.

Elementary Division

The Elementary Division for 8-11 year olds features two levels of instruction. Students in the Elementary Division attend class once or twice weekly that incorporates barre and center work using the Vaganova Method. They have the option to take additional weekly technique classes based on student ability and desire.

Intermediate Division

The Intermediate Division features two levels of instruction for students ages 10 years and older with a variety of classes designed to provide a more in-depth study of classical ballet technique. Pointe work is introduced in this division. In addition students will improve their knowledge and control of their bodies through stretch, Pilates, and nutrition. Placement in this division is determined by each student’s individual experience, physical, intellectual and emotional development, not necessarily by age; recommendations will be made by The Studio faculty at registration.

Intermediate/Advanced Division

The Intermediate/Advanced Division is designed for the student, ages 10 to adult, who is working towards the pre-professional level of expertise. Additional emphasis is placed on pointe work and men’s technique. Students will improve their knowledge and control of their bodies through stretch, Pilates, and nutrition. The additional time and commitment related to this class schedule enables the student to be successful both technically and artistically. Placement in this division is determined by each student’s individual experience, physical, intellectual and emotional development, not necessarily by age; recommendations will be made by The Studio faculty at registration

Performance Opportunity

Each year The Studio Cooperative has an opportunity for all students to participate in a performance. We use a professional venue, choreograph original work, and costume students. Students learn how to work as a group, theater etiquette and stagecraft. This commitment involves extra rehearsal time as we do not drill performance choreography in normal class time. We ask that each student who wishes to participate commit to the performance schedule in January. A fee for the performance is charged to cover the cost of hall rental, extra studio time, stage hands, and costuming. Tickets to the performance are free.
